Building a pondless waterfall

A pondless waterfall gives the sound and movement of water without an open pond basin. The main design challenge is matching waterfall width, stream length, reservoir capacity, pump flow, and maintenance access so the feature runs smoothly without frequent refilling or difficult service.

What to plan before buying

• Waterfall width: wider spillways require more flow for a full sheet of water.
• Stream length and elevation: head height and distance reduce delivered GPH.
• Reservoir capacity: the basin must hold enough water for startup, splash, and evaporation.
• Pump vault access: make sure the pump can be removed and cleaned.
• Tubing size: undersized plumbing can restrict flow and increase pump strain.
• Stone and site layout: splash control matters near patios, walkways, and structures.
